I am Michel Conci, and am based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I was born in 1974. I am active since young (even as child) in creating songs, meanwhile trying out various instruments. Recorded through MIDI, DAW, and keyboard, and later became most attracted to percussion instruments. Created songs and sang, first cooperated with my guitar-playing brothers, since my early teens. Worked on my songwriting and singing throughout. I am influenced by different music genres, especially Reggae, but also Funk, African music, Blues, Flamenco, Hip Hop, Jazz, Afro-Cuban music, and other genres. Lyrically, I try to comment on social and global developments, through philosophical and spiritual (Rastafari, a.o.) connections I make. I also make instrumental compositions (also under the name of Bongo Michel), many largely based on a combination of percussion instruments (small and big) I play, and on a polyrhythmic base. I am of Italian (father) and Spanish (mother) descent, and grew up in the Netherlands, so am quite international from the start. Trips to Cuba further influenced my music, alongside my lifelong passion for Reggae and African music. As a musician (percussionist, mainly) I play with many different people on different levels, such as on jam sessions, and play in a Netherlands (Amsterdam)-based Reggae band called Flavour Coalition. I play occasionally with other bands too, such as for live concerts. My approach is experimental and artistic, and while in essence noncommercial, I still try to get my music "out there".
